Frequently Asked Questions

What type of services do you offer?

We offer Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI), TheraSuit Method, Universal Exercise Unit, whole body vibration with Hypervibe and electrical stimulation using TASES and NISE-stim. We also offer occupational therapy specialties including primitive reflex integration and sensory integration.

What is intensive therapy?

Intensive therapy is a model of therapy that allows the child to make quicker gains in a short window of time. Usually an intensive is 2-3 hours per day for up to 1-3 weeks at a time.

Do you treat all ages?

Yes! We treat children ages 0-18. It is never too early for an intensive, and thankfully with the TheraSuit and UEU, we can treat older children, too, with incredible results.

Do you have weight limits on children you treat?

We don’t have a set weight limit, but depending on the child’s abilities and size we may prioritize exercises in the spider cage for the safety of the child and therapist. To make this discernment, we will have to meet your child in person (usually at our evaluation/ consultation). Typically, for children that are over 40 pounds, we may recommend the spider cage as a safer and more effective modality, or adapting DMI in the spider cage. The intensive approach changes as the child grows, for everyone’s safety.

How often should we do intensives?

This is a very child and family dependent answer. Children benefit from frequent doses of intensive therapy, but since intensives require time and money, we recommend to families that they book as frequently as they can. Some children require one intensive to meet their developmental goals, while others require many more intensives. Most of our families book on average 2-3 intensives per year.

How long should my child’s first intensive be?

This is also very child and family dependent. The more time we have to work with your child, the better opportunity for us to create new neural pathways for movement, reflex integration and independent movement. Most of our families book at least 2 week intensives.

For children 0-18 months we recommend 60-90 minute sessions, with breaks as needed.

For children 18 months and older, we recommend 2 hours per day, with breaks as needed.

Depending on the child’s endurance, dependency on oxygen or other external factors, these recommendations may change.

Do we have to cancel other therapies during an intensive with you?

It is recommended to put other therapies on hold during your child’s intensive with us. Your child will be doing an incredible amount of work in their time with us, and will leave us ready to rest.

What does an intensive cost?

Please reach out to us at hello@therahappy.com for pricing. We offer 10% discounts to all returning families for full intensives. Mini intensives (anything that is shorter than 5 consecutive days) are excluded.

Can my child participate in DMI if they are older than 5 years old?

Yes! True DMI is created for children under 50 pounds, aged 0-5 but we adapt many DMI exercises for older children with excellent results. This is mostly done using the spider cage.

Do you take insurance?

At this time, we are considered out-of-network with all insurance companies.

Do you provide superbills?

Yes!

Where are you located?

10551 Mills Road, Houston, TX 77070. We are located in a two-story house upstairs from a dentist’s office. Parking is free. You may park in front of the house, or in the church parking lot next door.

Does my child need a new evaluation for an intensive with you?

While we prefer to do the evaluation ourselves to have a solid plan of care before the intensive, we don’t require it to be done at our clinic. If your child has had a recent OT evaluation within 6 months from the intensive start date, we can usually accept this in lieu of a new OT evaluation at our clinic. We require an OT evaluation on file since we work under an occupational therapy license.

Can my other children come with me?

Yes, other family members are welcome to tag along. We have a family lounge area with access to a refrigerator, microwave, coffee, snacks, and WiFi.

How soon can I book an intensive?

Please email hello@therahappy.com for our most recent availability.

What is your cancellation policy?

Because intensive scheduling reserves substantial therapist time and limits other scheduling availability, intensive cancellations may incur a reserved-session fee, as described below in detail. We understand illness occurs and will attempt to offer alternative support options whenever possible. While we never want to charge a family for an unattended session, maintaining an intensive therapy model requires us to protect reserved therapist time.

61+ Days Before Intensive Start Date
Deposit may be transferred to a future intensive without a cancellation fee.

30–60 Days Before Intensive Start Date

Deposit may be transferred to a future intensive. A $100 cancellation fee will apply.

8–30 Days Before Intensive Start Date

Deposit may be transferred to a future intensive. A $250 cancellation fee will apply. Any additional balance paid beyond the deposit may be credited toward a future intensive.

0-7 Days / Sudden Illness Immediately Before or During an Intensive
We understand that unexpected illness and emergencies can occur. If a child becomes ill immediately before or during an intensive, or if the intensive needs to be cancelled due to unforeseen emergency, 50% of the total intensive cost will be retained as a reserved-session fee to cover therapist scheduling, staffing, and preparation costs. The retained amount is non-transferable and will not be applied toward a future intensive. Any remaining eligible balance may be credited toward a future intensive at clinic discretion.
